Paramount Delays Latest ‘Transformers,’ ‘Star Trek’ Movies

Paramount has announced its upcoming “Transformers” and “Star Trek” films have been delayed.

“Transformers: Rise of the Beasts,” a prequel in the sci-fi action franchise, was originally scheduled for June 24, 2022 and will now open on June 9, 2023. That caused the studio to delay the still-untitled “Star Trek” movie from June 9, 2023 to Dec. 22, 2023.

More from Variety

Anthony Ramos is starring in “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts,” which is being directed by Steven Caple Jr. (“Creed II”). Plot details have been kept under wraps. “Transformers,” based on the Hasbro toy line, has been a massively successful property for Paramount. “Transformers” debuted in 2007 and featured Shia LaBeouf as a plucky teenager who finds himself in the middle of a battle between the Autobots and Decepticons. Several sequels and one spinoff — 2009’s “Revenge of the Fallen,” 2011’s “Dark of the Moon,” 2014’s “Age of Extinction,” 2017’s “The Last Night,” and 2018’s “Bumblebee” — followed.

Even less is known about Paramount’s “Star Trek” installment. “WandaVision” director Matt Shakman is handling filmmaking duties, while Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet are writing the script. It’s not clear who will star in the film.
