Cardinal Timothy Dolan told Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul on Wednesday that New York was praying for her — and joked that she could “light some candles” after he celebrated St. Patrick’s Day Mass.
Dolan’s remarks at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Manhattan drew laughter and applause amid the spiraling scandals that threaten to force Gov. Andrew Cuomo from office.
Dolan publicly welcomed Mayor Bill de Blasio, Police Commissioner Dermont Shea and other officials to the iconic Fifth Avenue church before acknowledging Hochul, who was wearing a green dress to mark the annual celebration of Irish culture.
“We’re sure glad you’re here. If you want to light some candles after Mass, we’ll understand. All right?” Dolan said.
“Our prayers are with you, with your responsibilities.”
Cuomo is facing an impeachment investigation by the state Assembly Judiciary Committee that, if it leads to his impeachment, would automatically make Hochul acting governor pending a trial in the state Senate.
