A Minnesota resident who recently traveled to New York City tested positive for the Omicron variant of COVID-19, officials announced Thursday.
The fully vaccinated man experienced “mild symptoms” of the virus on Nov. 22 and was tested two days later, after attending an anime convention at the Javits Center on Manhattan’s West Side from Nov. 19 to Nov. 21, according to the Minnesota Department of Health.
The Hennepin County resident’s COVID-19 symptoms have “resolved,” the health department said.
The news comes after Dr. Anthony Fauci and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Monday that the first known US case of the Omicron variant had been found in San Francisco.
The fully vaccinated person had traveled to South Africa and tested positive for the new variant on Monday.
